The AK-06’s industrial, almost steam punk aesthetic is recognisably AKRIVIA’s. However, the calibre, visually marked by its symmetry, is also found in Rexhep Rexhepi’s more classic Chronometre Contemporain. However, in this watch, that is devoid of a dial, the wearer can appreciate an uninterrupted view of the beautifully finished movement.
The openworked dial gives us a glimpse into some of the intricate workings of the watch, while the industrial feel is tempered by the golden sheen of the baseplate. This is finished with hand-hammering, with the effect of each individual dimple combining to give the watch a textured depth. The watch has also been subtly adjusted, making its functions slightly more complicated than we might imagine. The AK-06 watch hides a fascinating mini complication. Pulling the crown out to set the time resets the subsidiary seconds hand to the zero position. Aimed at accurate time-setting, this feature is achieved with the help of a heart-shaped cam, not dissimilar to the resetting mechanism in chronographs, placed beneath the seconds’ hand.
Developed in-house, the Calibre AK-06, takes the same architectural approach to movement design found across all of AKRIVIA's watches. Developed, decorated and assembled entirely in-house, the anglage is in rounded, bombe style, requiring additional skill that can achieved by hand, used on both visible and non-visible parts of the movement. Following the highest standards of Genevan watchmaking, this is also shown in the deep, clear, Côtes de Genève, decorating the movement plates.
The 41mm titanium case is complex in its construction, with many parts coming together to create the elegant tonneau shape. However, the harmonious application of polishing and chamfering ties the whole thing together. For instance, the finishing on the lugs is thoughtfully replicated on the side insert on the case as well as the crown protector. It is the level of finishing and detail that we have come to expect from watchmaker Rexhep Rexhepi.
