Sell Your Philippe Dufour Watch

Philippe Dufour is rightfully acknowledged as one of this century’s best practitioners of traditional finishing. His style is informed by the history of the Vallée de Joux, the fabled home of Swiss watchmaking. As the sole pre-owned seller endorsed by the watchmaker, we have spent time speaking with the man and studying several of the small number of watches he has created ever since he went independent in 1992.

The time Dufour spent at Jaeger-LeCoultre, Audemars Piguet, and restoring historical timepieces spurred him on to create under his own name. His very first piece, the Grande et Petite Sonnerie, a chiming complication hitherto not seen in wristwatches, announced his intention. Since then, Dufour has gone on to create a small number of watches, applying the level of craft and detail found in his complicated pieces, to even his most mechanically simple watches.

WHY SELL YOUR WATCH WITH US

Our relationship with Philippe Dufour has placed us in a unique position in the industry for those looking to buy, sell and learn more about Dufour’s watches.

We were the first online retailer to offer a Simplicity and have since gone on to sell more than 10 of the watchmaker’s limited number of pieces. Several of these attracted record prices when they were sold. This includes a Grand et Petit Sonnerie sold for $7.63m, the highest sale price for a watch by an independent maker. The record still stands.

We feel very privileged to have this type of relationship with Philippe Dufour, and remain the only endorsed seller of his pre-owned watches.

Previous Philippe Dufour Sales

Philippe Dufour

Duality | 34mm | Platinum

The Duality’s classically proportioned case and restrained dial, all finished to the watchmaker’s high standards, bely its complicated underpinnings. Featuring Dufour’s double escapement, an arrangement aimed at even distribution of energy, it was one of the watchmaker’s earliest innovations. With only nine pieces made, the Duality is a veritable rarity.

Grande et Petite Sonnerie | 39mm | Rose Gold

The first chiming wristwatch ever created is doubly important, as the complication with which Dufour decided to announce his independent brand to the world. Initially delivered to the Sultan of Brunei, A Collected Man sold this for a record price for a watch by an independent watchmaker.

Philippe Dufour

Simplicity | 37mm | Rose Gold

Believed to be one of the first 35 examples produced by the watchmaker, this rare Simplicity, in its larger size and rose gold case, represents one of the most uncommon variants, of arguably the most coveted hand-made watch in the world.

Philippe Dufour

Simplicity | 37mm | White Gold

With just over 200 made so far, the Simplicity represents the distillation of Dufour’s vision of watchmaking. Within this small series, this 37mm version represents an exceedingly rare combination – it features a white gold case with rose gold indices and hands.

A notable sale

One of the most impressive wristwatches ever made, the Grande et Petite Sonnerie is not just Dufour's earliest creation under his own name but also his most historically significant. Only eight examples were ever made, with this configuration unique amongst them.

In 2021, A Collected Man sold the watch for $7.63m, a world record price for a wristwatch made by an independent watchmaker.

Sold on the 16th August, 2021.
