This TBR-1 Prototype* is a unique piece that demonstrates the full reach and skill of Kari Voutilainen's work as an independent watchmaker. Nearly 10 years in the making, the piece bears many of Voutilainen's aesthetic hallmarks, but the movement truly shines through here. It is equipped with a one-minute tourbillon and a constant force mechanism incorporated into the going train, that gives the watch its jumping-minute function. The piece was certified a chronometre by the Besançon Observatory and comes furnished with the results of the timing tests. This rare piece is testament to an early period, not just in Voutilainen's career, but in independent watchmaking, marked by flexibility and experimentation. It is without a doubt one of the most consequential watches created in the last few decades.

WHAT MAKES A VOUTILAINEN WATCH?

After a period spent restoring some of the finest watches from the last three centuries, Kari Voutilainen set out as an independent watchmaker.

His work has been welcomed with great acclaim, on account of its unique aesthetic and quality. Every component in his watches involves manual labour: from the bridges and the smallest of screws to adjusting tolerances, polishing and angling.

His efforts have been recognised with more than half a dozen awards from the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève), the most prestigious award ceremony in the watch industry. The Vingt-8 collection has long been a centrepiece of the watchmaker's offering, representing the canvas on which he has continually experimented over the years.
